44X34 Inches Acrylic on canvas |
My paintings have become increasingly non-objective over time, with abstract shapes juxtaposed and layered. For me, the important aspect of my work is in the journey. "The process of painting allows me to communicate with people through my art. I try to capture my feelings in my paintings: the now, the emotions, the spirituality. My belief is that people like creating and enjoying art because it is an attempt to understand the true nature of how and what things really are. My work is a celebration of a love affair with the Real which gives an alternative to the stress most of us experience in the current world. I am presently working on my next show to be at Expressions in Fine Art, Santa Fe, NM September the 5th through September 18th, 2003. Most works are acrylic on canvas. I use Golden brand acrylics because it’s the best paint I have come across, some I make from pure pigment myself. I usually paint on 12 oz. canvas. I have the canvas stretcher bars made to my specifications. I paint on the edges of my work so it can be hung as is or framed. Paint is applied using a variety of tools including brushes, putty knives, sticks, rags, pallet knives, etc. I try to incorporate the basic principles of making art though my work is abstract, such as composition, perspective, color theory, etc. to get depth and interest. I use various techniques to get a painting started, usually drawing from nature and deciding on a color scheme and a basic composition.
